01Description
An oval medallion in the Sarouk drawing-room tradition
By the time the Sarouk villages in Markazi province were quietly outfitting the American market in the 1920s, their weavers had modified the regional grammar: heavier knot counts, denser pile, and the pigment-saturated reds that wholesalers in New York would later re-dye for Park Avenue. This piece quotes the cousin chapter of that same drawing-room idiom — not the painted-red field, but the silver-gray oval medallion that floats inside a navy frame, designed to perform in the rooms the originals once anchored.
The oval is the Sarouk signature. It elongates with the room rather than fighting it. The navy border behaves like the wide mat on a framed painting — drawing the eye inward rather than pushing the field away.
How it behaves under your lighting
This is the Navy cohort’s warmest sibling. The silver-gray oval throws back warm incandescent and 2700K LED with a faint pearlescent cast; the border reads almost black at night and just-blue-enough in daylight to register as deliberate, never somber. Under 4000K cool LED or fluorescent overhead the field cools and silvers — still beautiful, but a different rug. If you have a choice, pair it with 2700–3000K warm bulbs.
Tactile, the field-to-border contrast does psychological work: the eye fills in plushness it expects from a pale-ground rug, so this sibling reads softer underfoot than its all-navy cousins, even at identical pile.

Pairing it
This rug was drawn for traditional and traditional-leaning rooms: walnut, mahogany, cherry, antique brass, oil portraits, brown-leather club chairs, a piano in the corner. Federal and Colonial Revival pieces read as if they were cut for it. Mid-century works only if you bring in warm wood (teak, rosewood) and at least one cream or oatmeal upholstered seat. It does not want to live in an all-white modernist room with chrome and glass — that’s not snobbery, that’s lighting physics.
Best for / skip if
Best for: traditional living rooms with warm-wood furniture; formal dining rooms; libraries; warm-toned bedrooms with antique nightstands; shoppers already on 2700–3000K warm lighting.
Skip if: your room is all cool-white LED with high-gloss white walls and chrome — this rug will sleep, and you’ll wonder why. Also skip if you want a single graphic center to anchor a strictly symmetrical layout; the oval is gentler than that. Try the cohort’s centered-medallion siblings instead.

We keep Navy cohort pieces in regular rotation at our Watt Avenue showroom under both warm and cool lighting so you can test the lighting argument above for yourself. Bring a photo of your sofa or a fabric swatch — we’ll lay this against three adjacent siblings. Visit the showroom or browse the rest of the Navy cohort.
Reed count and density. “1200 Reeds” (شانه ۱۲۰۰, shaneh 1200) describes the warp density across the rug’s width; “tarakom” (تراکم) describes knot density. Our 1200 Reeds line exceeds 3,000,000 knots/m² — well above commodity machine-woven rugs and approaching mid-grade hand-knotted territory in fineness, though still a machine-woven design-language quotation of the traditions it references. 03Materials & Craftsmanship
This piece sits in the cotton family — cotton face on a cotton foundation, precision machine-woven for sharp pattern definition with hand-finished edges. The cotton hand is softer and lighter than wool underfoot, reads more tonal, and suits bedrooms, sunrooms, and adult-led households where palette quietness matters.
Patterns draw on Persian medallion and field traditions, translated into the cotton register: lighter, more luminous, more breathable than a comparable wool weave. Care is straightforward but not machine-wash — see the Care panel for details on this construction.
04Size Guide
5×7.5 ft (150×230 cm, 3.5 m²) — entry rooms, small bedrooms, and sitting areas.

8.2×11.5 ft (250×350 cm, 9 m²) — large living rooms and formal dining rooms (all furniture sitting on the rug).
10×13 ft (300×400 cm, 12 m²) — open floor plans and great rooms.
