How our rugs are made

  • This online collection is machine-woven (power-loomed) in Türkiye. These are not hand-knotted rugs.
  • The hand work is in the finishing. The fringes are attached and finished by hand, the edges are hand-serged or hand-bound, and the fine detail work along the borders and selvedge is completed by hand before the rug is rolled and packed.
  • Hand-knotted Afghan rugs are shown by appointment. Genuine hand-knotted carpets from Afghanistan — Turkmen gül, Khal Mohammadi, Baluch and Aqcha weaves in hand-spun wool — are viewed in person at our Sacramento showroom. They are not listed online. See the hand-knotted collection →
  • “Persian” is a design term. Like “Kashan,” “Tabriz” or “Oushak,” it describes the motif and pattern — the standard vocabulary of the international rug trade — never the country of manufacture.

How to tell the difference yourself

Turn any rug over. A hand-knotted rug shows individual, slightly irregular knots that mirror the front pattern, with visible foundation warps and fringe that is integral to the foundation. A machine-woven rug has a uniform back and fringe that is attached rather than structural — on ours, that fringe is attached and finished by hand, which is why it sits neatly and wears well, but it is still an applied fringe. We would rather you know this before you buy than discover it afterwards.

Are the rugs in this collection hand-knotted?

No — they are machine-woven in Türkiye with hand-finished fringes, edges and detail work. If a seller offers you a “hand-knotted Persian rug” at a few hundred dollars, it is almost certainly machine-woven — the labour alone makes a genuine hand-knotted rug a several-thousand-dollar object.

Do you sell hand-knotted rugs at all?

What to know before buying a machine-made rug

Construction

The online catalog is power-loomed in Türkiye with hand-attached fringes and hand-finished edges. Each product page lists the exact construction, density, pile height and material.

Material & feel

A polypropylene pile on a cotton warp and weft — soft underfoot, colourfast, and far more forgiving of traffic and spills than wool.

Cleaning

Colourfast and water-safe, so a rug can be washed at home by hand or with a carpet-cleaning machine. Never in a washing machine or dryer. Day to day, vacuum on low with the beater bar off.

Best rooms

Living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, family rooms and majlis seating — anywhere you want a traditional look that survives daily use.

Shipping is free on orders over $110 across the USA and Canada, and a flat $20 below that. Orders leave within one business day and arrive in 3–5 business days in the U.S. Sacramento-area online orders get free local delivery in 1–2 days.

What is your return policy?

30-day returns on online orders. Items must be unused, in original condition and in original packaging. The customer pays return shipping; if a rug arrives damaged or faulty, we pay. Approved refunds are processed within 3–7 business days.

Can a rug be cut or bound to a different size?

We sell from stock rather than weaving to order, and the largest size we carry is 10×13. What we do in house is cutting, binding, overlocking and fringe work on a rug we already stock, so an existing piece can be trimmed to fit an alcove or a stair run. Ask us and we will tell you what is on the floor.

Can I see the rugs in person before buying?

Yes. The showroom is at 3423 Watt Avenue, Sacramento, open daily 10:00 AM – 7:30 PM. We speak English, Turkish, Farsi, Dari, Pashto and Urdu, and the team can help with size and colour choices.
