01Description
Sa’adabad reception-hall register, early Pahlavi 1925–1940, restated in 1200 Reeds
When the Pahlavi state took over from the Qajars in 1925, the court’s visual program had to change fast. The new commissions for the Sa’adabad and Marble Palace reception halls deliberately pulled away from Qajar baroque richness and toward a restrained European-court-modern register: royal-blue grounds in place of crimson, gold detail used sparingly rather than as illumination saturation, and medallion architecture that read cleaner and more architectural — a state choosing to look at itself differently. This shift is documented in the carpet record from 1925 through the late 1930s.
This 1200 Reeds machine-woven piece quotes that register. Royal-blue field, restrained gold detail, architectural medallion. It is a design-language reference — not a Pahlavi-era commission, not Sa’adabad, not hand-knotted. What carries is the modernizing imperial visual logic: blue authority, gold restraint, architectural clarity.
How it feels in a room
Reserved. The royal-blue ground reads as authority without warmth — the rug carries gravity into a room without the conviviality of red or the introspection of dark navy. The restrained gold detail keeps the composition disciplined; nothing decorative gets in the way of the medallion line. Reads well under both warm and cool light, which makes this the most lighting-flexible rug in the imperial register. In a north-facing room it stays composed. In a warm-lit study it warms toward Prussian.

Designer styling
Pairs with walnut and rosewood, dark-bronze or polished-nickel hardware, classical-proportion casework, and upholstery in cream, oatmeal, charcoal, or aged-leather cognac. Works under a Chesterfield, under a partner’s desk, or in a classical-proportion entry hall. Compatible with both warm and cool architectural palettes, which makes it the rare imperial-register rug that survives a transitional interior. Avoid pairing with chrome or cool-white modernism — the royal-blue wants traditional materials around it.
Best for / Skip if
Best for: formal libraries, reception halls, classical-proportion entries, study rooms, owners who want imperial register without crimson saturation.
Skip if: your interior is contemporary-minimalist (the medallion is too composed for that vocabulary), you want a warm-friendly conversation rug, or you need a high-traffic family-room rug. This is reserved-register flooring.

About 1200 Reeds construction: شانه (shaneh) refers to reed-count density — the warp threads per unit width that determine surface tessellation. تراکم (tarakom) refers to knot/weft density. See our complete guide to reed-count density.
Origin & Heritage
Persian weaving is the longest continuous design tradition in floor covering — a vocabulary of medallions, herati and mahi fields, boteh borders, and floral spandrels developed over centuries from Tabriz to Isfahan, Kashan to Nain. This piece sits within that vocabulary in a Persian-inspired interpretation, drawing on classical motifs with a palette suited to contemporary rooms.
How It Feels Underfoot
This piece is built for living, not display. The high-density synthetic pile holds pattern definition cleanly underfoot — medallions and borders read sharp at floor level — and recovers from foot traffic, furniture impressions, and the small accidents of family life. The hand is soft and resilient; the cleaning brief is honest spot-and-vacuum rather than the slow ritual of a hand-knotted wool piece.
Designer Styling Notes
Persian palettes reward considered pairings: walnut and oak casegoods, antiqued brass and polished nickel, ivory linen and cream bouclé, leather in cognac or oxblood. For a layered look, sit a darker Persian against a paler sofa; for a more graphic read, a light-ground Persian beneath a lower-profile sectional with a single bronze accent.

02Materials & Craftsmanship
This piece sits in the easy-care performance family — high-density polypropylene or polyester pile on a cotton foundation, precision machine-woven for sharp pattern definition with hand-finished edges. The construction is purpose-built for family-friendly living: stain-resistant, fade-resistant, low-maintenance, and forgiving of regular vacuuming and spot cleaning.
Patterns are inspired by Persian, Kashan, Tabriz, and Turkmen design vocabularies — reinterpreted in a soft synthetic blend that performs in high-traffic rooms without the maintenance commitment of a hand-knotted wool piece.
