Heritage & inspiration

This piece draws from Anatolian prayer-rug tradition — the mihrab arch, originally a ritual indicator of qibla direction in Ottoman-period prayer rugs (Bergama, Ladik, Ku̇la, and especially the Trans-Caucasian and Western Anatolian weaving centers of the 17th–19th centuries). Over time the arch motif migrated out of strictly devotional use and into purely decorative weaving — architectural quotation rather than religious function, preserved because the niche-on-a-field composition is visually strong.

That makes this rug fundamentally different from every other Light Gray sibling in the cohort. The Kashan, Sultanabad, Isfahan, and Mughal registers all build around a central medallion that reads symmetric in all directions. This one has a head and a foot. Place it accordingly.

Sits adjacent to the cohort's Light Gray anchor (Caucasian-Heriz patchwork bridge) and the other LG siblings — but the directional reading is unique to this SKU.

How it feels underfoot

1200 Reeds (1200 شانه) on premium cotton warp; density over 3,000,000 knots/m² (تراکم). Same engineered pile consistency as the rest of the cohort — tight, even, machine-precise. The directional design doesn't change the underfoot feel.

Available sizes

Stocked in the canonical cohort run: 3×6, 3×10, 5×7.5, 6.5×10, 8.2×11.5, and 10×13 ft. Mihrab-arch designs are strongest at 3×5, 5×7.5, and 6.5×10 — the directional read intensifies at scales where the entire arch is visible from a single viewpoint. At 10×13 the arch reads as one element of a larger field rather than as the field itself.

Designer styling notes

Use the directionality on purpose:

  • Entry / foyer: arch points away from the door, drawing the eye into the house — the canonical placement
  • Head-of-bed: arch crown sits at the headboard wall, foot of rug extends past the bed; reads architectural rather than rectangular
  • Foot of bed runner: at 3×10, arch points toward the room rather than the bed; visual termination of the bedroom
  • Reading alcove / sun nook: arch frames the seating; the room reads composed around the rug rather than around the furniture
  • Avoid: centered under a square coffee table in the middle of a living room — the directionality fights the symmetric furniture arrangement

Best for · skip if

Best for: rooms that have a natural axis — entries that face away from the door, beds against a long wall, reading alcoves, sun-rooms with a primary view. The mihrab arch flatters architecture that already has direction.

Skip if the room is symmetric and centered — a square living room with a coffee table in the middle, a dining room around a round table. The directional arch will look misaligned no matter how you place it. For symmetric rooms use the Kashan-register sibling or the Sultanabad sibling instead.

See it in person at our Watt Avenue showroom. Mihrab-arch rugs particularly benefit from in-room viewing — the directionality only reads correctly when oriented relative to architecture and furniture. We can roll out 5×7.5 and 6.5×10 oriented different ways so you can see the placement difference. Free local delivery within Sacramento metro.

02Materials & Craftsmanship

This piece sits in the easy-care performance family — high-density polypropylene or polyester pile on a cotton foundation, precision machine-woven for sharp pattern definition with hand-finished edges. The construction is purpose-built for family-friendly living: stain-resistant, fade-resistant, low-maintenance, and forgiving of regular vacuuming and spot cleaning.

Patterns are inspired by Persian, Kashan, Tabriz, and Turkmen design vocabularies — reinterpreted in a soft synthetic blend that performs in high-traffic rooms without the maintenance commitment of a hand-knotted wool piece.

03Size Guide

5×7.5 ft (150×230 cm, 3.5 m²) — entry rooms, small bedrooms, and sitting areas.

6.5×10 ft (200×300 cm, 6 m²) — medium living rooms and bedrooms with furniture partially on the rug.

8.2×11.5 ft (250×350 cm, 9 m²) — large living rooms and formal dining rooms (all furniture sitting on the rug).

10×13 ft (300×400 cm, 12 m²) — open floor plans and great rooms.

Styling tip: a rug should extend 18–24 inches beyond the sofa on each side for a balanced look.

04Care Instructions
  • Vacuum weekly with the beater bar off to protect the pile
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth (don't rub)
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 6 months for even wear
  • Professional clean every 12–18 months
  • Use a quality rug pad on hardwood for cushion and to extend life
