01Description
An eight-pointed star geometry from the Caucasus, restated in 1200 Reeds
The eight-pointed star is one of the oldest carpet motifs in the southwest Caucasus — a bold tessellating geometry that 19th-century Kazak and Shirvan village weavers used to fill the field rather than orbit a central medallion. This rug quotes that tradition: dense star repeats, no single focal point, a rhythm carried by geometry instead of by a hierarchy. The palette stays cool — indigos, ivories, restrained reds at the points — in the way Caucasian village rugs once read against unwhitewashed stone walls and low winter light.
It is a design-language reference. The rug is a contemporary 1200 Reeds machine-woven piece — not a Caucasian village rug, not from the Caucasus, not hand-knotted. What it carries is the visual logic: tessellating stars, multi-banded border, geometry-first composition.
How it feels in a room
Architectural before it is decorative. The star field gives a study or a library a quiet, regimented rhythm — the kind of pattern you stop noticing after a week because the eye accepts it as structure. Reads strongest under cool daylight or cool-temperature LED, where the indigo holds its blue without warming toward navy. In a warm-incandescent room the field softens but the geometry still drives the composition.
- Construction
- 1200 Reeds machine-woven polypropylene
- Density (شانه shaneh / تراکم tarakom)
- 1200 reed-count, dense surface tessellation
- Field
- Indigo with cool ivory ground; eight-pointed star repeat
- Border
- Multi-banded geometric, Caucasian-village register
- Heritage register
- Kazak / Shirvan eight-point star (southwest Caucasus, 19th c.)
- Care
- Not a machine-washable rug. Vacuum at the regular setting. Blot spills promptly with a clean dry cloth — the tight geometric weave resists penetration. Professional clean every 24 months.
Available sizes
3×6, 4×6, 5×7.5, 5×8, 8×10, 8×11, 10×13. See variant selector for current pricing and stock.
Designer styling
Pairs with leather (oxblood, cognac), walnut shelving, slate or limewashed walls, and brass or oil-rubbed-bronze hardware. Works under a writing desk or in front of bookcases — rooms that already have linear architectural elements absorb the star tessellation easily. Avoid pairing with strong floral upholstery; the geometry argues with curvilinear motifs.
Best for / Skip if
Best for: studies, libraries, masculine sitting rooms, cool-lit interiors, owners who read carpets as architecture rather than ornament.
Skip if: you want a single dominant medallion as the room’s focal point, you live in a high-warmth interior (the cool palette will fight the room), or you need a soft transitional rug. This is a directional geometric statement.

About 1200 Reeds construction: شانه (shaneh) refers to reed-count density — the warp threads per unit width that determine surface tessellation. تراکم (tarakom) refers to knot/weft density. See our complete guide to reed-count density.
Origin & Heritage
Modern Persian rugs translate the visual vocabulary of classical Persian weaving — medallions, herati fields, layered borders — into palettes and scale that read as contemporary. The pattern lineage is intact; the colour story is updated for rooms built around oak, linen, brass, and natural light. The result reads as authentic Persian without being period-specific.
How It Feels Underfoot
This piece is built for living, not display. The high-density synthetic pile holds pattern definition cleanly underfoot — medallions and borders read sharp at floor level — and recovers from foot traffic, furniture impressions, and the small accidents of family life. The hand is soft and resilient; the cleaning brief is honest spot-and-vacuum rather than the slow ritual of a hand-knotted wool piece.
Designer Styling Notes
Modern Persian palettes pair beautifully with cerused oak, walnut, antiqued brass, ivory linen, cream bouclé, and matte black metalwork. They sit equally well in a contemporary loft as in a transitional living room — the through-line is restraint in the surrounding palette, letting the rug carry the pattern story while the furniture stays quiet.
Our Curated Selection
Stylish Rugs is a Sacramento showroom at 3423 Watt Avenue — open daily, ten to seven — and the catalogue here is a curated slice of what we carry. We serve the Iranian and Afghan communities of Sacramento and Northern California in person and online, and we source and commission collector pieces on request. If you are looking for a specific size, palette, or hand-knotted commission you do not see listed, call the showroom or message us on WhatsApp and we will let you know what is available now and what we can bring in.
02Materials & Craftsmanship
This piece sits in the easy-care performance family — high-density polypropylene or polyester pile on a cotton foundation, precision machine-woven for sharp pattern definition with hand-finished edges. The construction is purpose-built for family-friendly living: stain-resistant, fade-resistant, low-maintenance, and forgiving of regular vacuuming and spot cleaning.
Patterns are inspired by Persian, Kashan, Tabriz, and Turkmen design vocabularies — reinterpreted in a soft synthetic blend that performs in high-traffic rooms without the maintenance commitment of a hand-knotted wool piece.
