01Description

A village rhythm, not a court medallion

Most Navy Medallion siblings in this cohort want your eye to land on a single center. Veramin does the opposite. Its 19th- and early-20th-century weavers built the minakhani field — small repeating diamonds with rosettes inside, walking selvedge-to-selvedge — because the village register valued continuity over hierarchy. The medallion is there if you want it. The field outvotes it. This piece quotes that grammar.

It is the cohort’s loosest-drawn sibling — village hands, not court ateliers. The diamonds are not perfectly identical; the rosettes wobble by a millimeter; the navy border is slightly less stiff than its urban-tradition cousins. That irregularity is the design, not a defect.

Why rhythm reads differently from a medallion

A centered-medallion rug pulls the room toward one spot. A minakhani rug pulls the eye across the surface at a steady pace — closer to reading a line of text than staring at a logo. The functional consequence: this sibling survives off-center furniture arrangements that would embarrass a centered design. A sofa that doesn’t sit precisely over the medallion never feels “wrong.” Partial-coverage placements — the classic rug-under-coffee-table-only — don’t look truncated, because there’s no center to truncate.

It is also the easiest Navy sibling to live with if you haven’t solved your lighting yet. There’s no single bright element competing with whatever bulb your landlord installed; the field reads at any color temperature.

Where the rhythm belongs

Veramin’s register wants a room that already breathes. It belongs in collected-eclectic interiors: a 1960s Danish credenza next to a Moroccan poof next to a Victorian armchair, and the rug is what makes the conversation cohere instead of compete. It also slots into calmer bohemian setups and into rooms with already-mixed pattern textiles — kilim cushions, block-print throws, suzani — because the minakhani repeat layers happily with other patterns where a centered medallion would fight them.

Best for / skip if

Best for: collected-eclectic and bohemian rooms; rooms where furniture won’t sit symmetrically; readers and slow-lookers who want a rug that rewards repeated visits; shoppers layering patterned textiles; renters without ideal lighting.

Skip if: you want a single dominant graphic center for a strictly symmetrical layout — try the Ardabil-register royal medallion or the Tabriz Hadji Jalili sibling in this cohort instead. Also skip if village-irregularity in the minor motifs would read to you as imprecision rather than character.

See it in our Sacramento showroom

The minakhani field is one of those designs that photographs flat and lives differently in person — the rhythm only emerges at walking distance. Our Watt Avenue showroom keeps Veramin and its cohort siblings laid out side by side so you can read them next to each other. Visit the showroom or browse the rest of the Navy cohort.

Reed count and density. “1200 Reeds” (شانه ۱۲۰۰, shaneh 1200) describes warp density across the rug’s width; “tarakom” (تراکم) describes knot density. Our 1200 Reeds line exceeds 3,000,000 knots/m² — well above commodity machine-woven rugs and approaching mid-grade hand-knotted territory in fineness, though still a machine-woven design-language quotation of the traditions it references. Full reed-count guide.

Origin & Heritage

Modern Persian rugs translate the visual vocabulary of classical Persian weaving — medallions, herati fields, layered borders — into palettes and scale that read as contemporary. The pattern lineage is intact; the colour story is updated for rooms built around oak, linen, brass, and natural light. The result reads as authentic Persian without being period-specific.

How It Feels Underfoot

This piece sits in the cotton register — softer and lighter than a comparable wool weave, with a more tonal, breathable hand underfoot. Pattern definition stays sharp at the borders and field; the rug reads more luminous than dense, and suits bedrooms, sunrooms, and adult-led households where palette quietness matters. Care is straightforward: vacuum gently, spot clean, no machine wash.

Designer Styling Notes

Modern Persian palettes pair beautifully with cerused oak, walnut, antiqued brass, ivory linen, cream bouclé, and matte black metalwork. They sit equally well in a contemporary loft as in a transitional living room — the through-line is restraint in the surrounding palette, letting the rug carry the pattern story while the furniture stays quiet.

This piece sits in the cotton family — cotton face on a cotton foundation, precision machine-woven for sharp pattern definition with hand-finished edges. The cotton hand is softer and lighter than wool underfoot, reads more tonal, and suits bedrooms, sunrooms, and adult-led households where palette quietness matters.

Patterns draw on Persian medallion and field traditions, translated into the cotton register: lighter, more luminous, more breathable than a comparable wool weave. Care is straightforward but not machine-wash — see the Care panel for details on this construction.
