This piece draws from Khotan and Kashgar weaving as practiced along the southern Silk Road from roughly 1700 through 1920 — the oases of Khotan, Yarkand, and Kashgar in what is now China's Xinjiang province. Khotan rugs occupy a distinctive position: a synthesis of Persian-tradition medallion vocabulary with Buddhist lotus iconography (preserved from the region's pre-Islamic past) and Chinese Imperial color sensibilities. The result is a register that reads simultaneously Persian, Buddhist, and Chinese — a true Silk-Road synthesis impossible elsewhere.

That makes this rug fundamentally different from the cohort's Navy Floral anchor, which sits squarely in the Kashan indigo court tradition. Same floral-medallion family, very different cultural register. The Khotan lotus reads contemplative and open; the Kashan indigo reads dense and ceremonial.

The cooler Light Gray ground (vs. the navy of the anchor) amplifies the Khotan reading — the lotus motif emerges from soft daylight rather than from candlelit indigo.

Best for: rooms reading contemplative, open, East-influenced. The Khotan register flatters interiors with East-Asian art, restrained furniture, and rooms where the rug is supposed to slow the eye rather than command it.

Skip if the brief is dense Persian formality (use the Navy Floral anchor) or maximalist court declaration (use any Mughal sibling). The Khotan register is the cohort's quietest floral register; don't ask it to project.

This piece sits in the easy-care performance family — high-density polypropylene or polyester pile on a cotton foundation, precision machine-woven for sharp pattern definition with hand-finished edges. The construction is purpose-built for family-friendly living: stain-resistant, fade-resistant, low-maintenance, and forgiving of regular vacuuming and spot cleaning.

Patterns are inspired by Persian, Kashan, Tabriz, and Turkmen design vocabularies — reinterpreted in a soft synthetic blend that performs in high-traffic rooms without the maintenance commitment of a hand-knotted wool piece.
