How to work with a grey rug

Grey is not automatically neutral — it has a temperature. A grey with a blue undertone next to a grey with a brown undertone will read as a mistake rather than a scheme. Hold a sample against your sofa and your floor in daylight before you commit, and match undertone to undertone.

A pure grey room needs one warm thing. Grey rug, grey sofa, grey walls and chrome is the single most common way a room goes cold. Wood, brass, leather, a cream cushion — any one of them fixes it. Several of the greys here already carry gold or cream in the pattern, which does that work for you.

Dark grey is the pet-and-kids answer. It hides everyday traffic close to as well as navy does, while reading lighter and more contemporary than a dark blue field.

Light grey opens a small room. If the room is short on daylight, a light grey field with a defined border will lift it where a charcoal rug would close it in.

Is grey still in style?

Flat, cool, all-over grey has faded. Grey with a pattern and a warm note in it — the silver-and-cream medallions and the grey-and-gold Darbar designs here — has not, because it behaves like a neutral rather than like a trend colour. That is the version worth buying.

What colour sofa goes with a grey rug?

Cream, oatmeal, camel, tan leather and deep green all work. A grey sofa on a grey rug can work, but only if the two greys are clearly different in depth — otherwise the seating area disappears into one flat block.

Do grey rugs show dirt?

Dark and mid greys hide everyday traffic well. Light grey and silver show it about as much as cream does, so keep the palest shades out of the entry and the dining room.

Are these hand-knotted?

No — machine-woven in Türkiye with fringes and edges finished by hand. “Persian,” “Kashan” and “Tabriz” describe the design, not the country of manufacture. Hand-knotted Afghan carpets are shown at our Sacramento showroom by appointment.

How do I keep a light grey rug looking clean?

Vacuum weekly without a beater bar, and blot spills straight away with cold water and a drop of mild soap rather than letting them dry. For a full clean, hose it down outdoors and dry it flat, or take it to a carpet-wash service.

Can I see the shade in person?

What to know before buying a machine-made rug

Construction

The online catalog is power-loomed in Türkiye with hand-attached fringes and hand-finished edges. Each product page lists the exact construction, density, pile height and material.

Material & feel

A polypropylene pile on a cotton warp and weft — soft underfoot, colourfast, and far more forgiving of traffic and spills than wool.

Cleaning

Colourfast and water-safe, so a rug can be washed at home by hand or with a carpet-cleaning machine. Never in a washing machine or dryer. Day to day, vacuum on low with the beater bar off.

Best rooms

Living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, family rooms and majlis seating — anywhere you want a traditional look that survives daily use.

Shipping is free on orders over $110 across the USA and Canada, and a flat $20 below that. Orders leave within one business day and arrive in 3–5 business days in the U.S. Sacramento-area online orders get free local delivery in 1–2 days.

What is your return policy?

30-day returns on online orders. Items must be unused, in original condition and in original packaging. The customer pays return shipping; if a rug arrives damaged or faulty, we pay. Approved refunds are processed within 3–7 business days.

Are these rugs machine-made or hand-knotted?

Can a rug be cut or bound to a different size?

We sell from stock rather than weaving to order, and the largest size we carry is 10×13. What we do in house is cutting, binding, overlocking and fringe work on a rug we already stock, so an existing piece can be trimmed to fit an alcove or a stair run. Ask us and we will tell you what is on the floor.

Can I see the rugs in person before buying?

Yes. The showroom is at 3423 Watt Avenue, Sacramento, open daily 10:00 AM – 7:30 PM. We speak English, Turkish, Farsi, Dari, Pashto and Urdu, and the team can help with size and colour choices.
