Isfahan court weaving under the late Safavid shahs — Abbas I (r. 1587–1629) through Sulayman I (r. 1666–1694) — produced the most elaborate silk-and-metal-thread carpets of the classical Persian tradition. The zari technique (Persian زری, from zar = gold) wove flat metal-thread (silver-gilt over silk core) directly into the pile, producing surfaces that reflected light differently from any pure-wool or pure-silk rug. The Isfahan zari medallions were among the most prized court commissions and most elaborate diplomatic gifts of the Safavid era.

This piece sits in the same zari tradition as the cohort's anchor but pulls toward a lighter, cooler register — silver-gray ground rather than deeper Isfahan classical, with the gold scroll reading as luminous accent against light rather than as candlelit reflection against deeper ground. Suits daylit rooms; the anchor suits evening reception.

This piece sits in the cotton family — cotton face on a cotton foundation, precision machine-woven for sharp pattern definition with hand-finished edges. The cotton hand is softer and lighter than wool underfoot, reads more tonal, and suits bedrooms, sunrooms, and adult-led households where palette quietness matters.

Patterns draw on Persian medallion and field traditions, translated into the cotton register: lighter, more luminous, more breathable than a comparable wool weave. Care is straightforward but not machine-wash — see the Care panel for details on this construction.
