Gold Rugs

Gold is a highlight colour, not a ground colour — and that is exactly how the weavers use it. In this collection gold runs through the medallion, the border and the corner spandrels of the Darbar and Turkish floral designs, usually against black, cream or light grey. It is the detail that catches lamplight in the evening. Machine-woven in Türkiye, with the fringes and edges finished by hand.

What is in this collection

  • Black and gold — the most dramatic pairing here, in floral Turkish and medallion designs.
  • Cream, ivory and gold — the formal, lighter version. Reads traditional without going dark.
  • Light grey and gold Darbar — the bridge between a modern grey room and a traditional pattern.
  • Gold Afghan toshak and Kabuli covers for floor seating — covers, not area rugs. See Afghan Toshak.

How to work with gold

Let the metal in the room agree with the rug. Gold in the weave sits naturally with brass, bronze and antique-gold fittings and with warm wood. Against a room of brushed chrome and cool white it can look stranded.

Gold needs low light to do its job. The reason these designs look best in the evening is that lamplight is what makes the gold read as metallic rather than as mustard. If your main seating is used after dark, gold earns its place.

Do not add more gold. One gold element per room — the rug — reads rich. Gold rug plus gold frames plus gold cushions plus gold lamp reads like a showroom.

Black-and-gold wants space around it. It is a high-contrast combination; give it a plain wall and restrained furniture and it looks expensive. Put it in a busy room and it competes.

Popular sizes

Gold designs are most often chosen for formal living and dining rooms, where 8×10 and 9×12 are the usual sizes. Shop 8×10 · 9×12 · runners for an entry hall, or see the rug size guide.

Answering your questions about gold rugs

Is the gold real metallic thread?

No. It is a gold-toned yarn in the pile — the colour is solution-dyed into the fibre, which is why it keeps its tone rather than tarnishing or wearing off the way a metallic coating would. It catches light because of the sheen of the fibre and the way the pile is cut, not because of any metal content.

What goes with a black and gold rug?

Keep the rest quiet: cream or warm white walls, a neutral sofa, wood or brass accents. The rug is the pattern in the room. A dark charcoal or deep green wall also works if you want the room to feel enclosed and formal.

Will a gold rug look yellow?

In flat overhead daylight the paler golds can read closer to honey or mustard; under lamps they warm up and read metallic. If your room is mostly used in daylight, the cream-and-gold designs hold their colour better than the deeper ones.

Are these hand-knotted?

No — machine-woven in Türkiye with hand-finished fringes and edges. The design names describe the pattern, not the country of manufacture. Hand-knotted Afghan carpets are shown at our Sacramento showroom by appointment.

How do I clean it?

Blot spills with cold water and a drop of mild soap. For a full clean, hose it down outdoors and lay it flat to dry, or take it to a carpet-wash service. Vacuum without a beater bar, and rotate the rug twice a year so the sheen wears evenly.

Can I see it in person?

Yes — most of the in-stock catalog is at our Sacramento showroom at 3423 Watt Avenue. Gold is the hardest colour to photograph honestly, so WhatsApp (916) 890-4077 if you want to see it under normal room light first.

Buying Guide

How to Choose the Right Rug for Your Home

A fine rug should feel beautiful, balanced, and practical for the way you live. Use this quick guide to choose the right size, color, material, and style.

Choose the Right Size

For living rooms, 8×10 or 9×12 usually frames the seating area. For dining rooms, choose a rug that extends at least 24 inches beyond the table.

Match Your Color Story

Burgundy and gold create a warm traditional look. Navy and cream feel elegant and modern. Ivory, beige, and soft tones help brighten smaller rooms.

Understand Rug Quality

Machine-made rugs offer consistent patterns, durability, and easier maintenance. Higher density and detailed weaving create sharper designs.

Shop by size

Not sure what fits? In a living room the rug should reach 18–24 inches past each side of the sofa. In a dining room, allow 24 inches beyond every chair so the chairs stay on the rug when they are pulled out.

Practical buying notes

What to know before buying a machine-made rug

Construction

The online catalog is power-loomed in Türkiye with hand-attached fringes and hand-finished edges. Each product page lists the exact construction, density, pile height and material.

Material & feel

A polypropylene pile on a cotton warp and weft — soft underfoot, colourfast, and far more forgiving of traffic and spills than wool.

Cleaning

Colourfast and water-safe, so a rug can be washed at home by hand or with a carpet-cleaning machine. Never in a washing machine or dryer. Day to day, vacuum on low with the beater bar off.

Best rooms

Living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, family rooms and majlis seating — anywhere you want a traditional look that survives daily use.

Hand-knotted

Genuine hand-knotted Afghan carpets are shown at the Sacramento showroom by appointment. They are not part of this online catalog.

Common questions

How much is shipping, and how long does it take?

Shipping is free on orders over $110 across the USA and Canada, and a flat $20 below that. Orders leave within one business day and arrive in 3–5 business days in the U.S. Sacramento-area online orders get free local delivery in 1–2 days.

What is your return policy?

30-day returns on online orders. Items must be unused, in original condition and in original packaging. The customer pays return shipping; if a rug arrives damaged or faulty, we pay. Approved refunds are processed within 3–7 business days.

Are these rugs machine-made or hand-knotted?

The online catalog is power-loomed (machine-woven) in Türkiye, with hand-attached fringes and hand-finished edges. Every product page lists the exact construction, density, pile height and material. Hand-knotted Afghan pieces are shown at the Sacramento showroom by appointment and are not listed online.

Can a rug be cut or bound to a different size?

We sell from stock rather than weaving to order, and the largest size we carry is 10×13. What we do in house is cutting, binding, overlocking and fringe work on a rug we already stock, so an existing piece can be trimmed to fit an alcove or a stair run. Ask us and we will tell you what is on the floor.

Can I see the rugs in person before buying?

Yes. The showroom is at 3423 Watt Avenue, Sacramento, open daily 10:00 AM – 7:30 PM. We speak English, Turkish, Farsi, Dari, Pashto and Urdu, and the team can help with size and colour choices.
