Blue Rugs

Blue is the oldest ground colour in Persian weaving. Indigo was the dye that held its depth longest, which is why so many classical Kashan and Tabriz medallions sit on a navy field — the pattern reads clearly against it and the colour does not shout over the furniture. This collection gathers that tradition in navy, royal blue, teal and soft azure, machine-woven in Türkiye at up to 1200 reeds so the medallion detail stays crisp.

What is in this collection

  • Blue area rugs in Persian, Kashan and Tabriz medallion designs, plus modern and 3D weaves — from about $110 for a small size up to the 9×12 and 10×13 room sizes.
  • Blue Afghan toshak covers and navy Arabic majlis floor-sofa sets, for households that seat on the floor. These are covers and sets, not area rugs — see Afghan Toshak and Arabic Majlis.
  • Two-tone navy and burgundy medallions, if you want blue without a fully cool room.

How to work with a blue rug

Navy is the safe one. It behaves like a dark neutral: it hides traffic and pet marks better than cream, it anchors a light sofa, and it does not fight a patterned cushion. If you are nervous about committing to colour, navy is where to start.

Blue is a cool colour, so give it something warm to lean on. Walnut or oak floors, a brass or antique-gold lamp, a leather chair, a jute basket — one warm element stops a blue room reading cold. Blue against grey walls with chrome fittings is the combination that most often disappoints people.

Bright rooms take teal; dim rooms want navy. South-facing light lifts teal and azure and makes them sing. In a north-facing or lamp-lit room the same teal goes flat and grey, while navy holds its depth.

Match the blue to the room, not to the sofa. A rug that matches your sofa exactly makes the seating area disappear into one block. Half a shade apart is better than an exact match.

Popular sizes in blue

8×10 is the living-room default, 9×12 suits a sectional or a great room, and 5×7 works beside a bed or under a desk. Shop 8×10 · 9×12 · 5×7 · runners, or read the rug size guide if you are between two sizes.

Answering your questions about blue rugs

Does a blue rug make a room look smaller?

A dark navy rug does visually lower and settle a room, which is usually what you want in a large or high-ceilinged space. In a small room, choose a lighter azure or teal, or a navy rug with a cream border and open field — the light border keeps the floor reading wide.

What colour walls go with a navy rug?

Warm white, greige and soft cream are the reliable choices; they let the rug be the colour in the room. Deep green and terracotta walls also work if you want a richer scheme. The one to avoid is a cool grey wall with a navy rug, which tends to read flat and institutional.

Will the blue fade in sunlight?

These are solution-dyed synthetic piles, so the colour is inside the fibre rather than printed on the surface of it, and it holds up well to daylight. Rotating the rug once or twice a year keeps any exposure even across the whole piece.

Are these hand-knotted Persian rugs?

No — they are machine-woven in Türkiye with fringes and edges finished by hand. “Persian,” “Kashan” and “Tabriz” name the design, not the country of manufacture. Hand-knotted Afghan carpets are shown at our Sacramento showroom by appointment and are not listed online.

How do I clean a blue rug?

Blot spills with cold water and a drop of mild soap, working from the outside of the spill inwards. For a full clean, hose it down outdoors and lay it flat to dry, or take it to a carpet-wash service. Vacuum without a beater bar.

Can I see the colour in person before buying?

Yes. Most of the in-stock catalog is at our Sacramento showroom at 3423 Watt Avenue. Screens render blues differently, so if the exact shade matters, WhatsApp (916) 890-4077 and we will send a photo in daylight.

Buying Guide

How to Choose the Right Rug for Your Home

A fine rug should feel beautiful, balanced, and practical for the way you live. Use this quick guide to choose the right size, color, material, and style.

Choose the Right Size

For living rooms, 8×10 or 9×12 usually frames the seating area. For dining rooms, choose a rug that extends at least 24 inches beyond the table.

Match Your Color Story

Burgundy and gold create a warm traditional look. Navy and cream feel elegant and modern. Ivory, beige, and soft tones help brighten smaller rooms.

Understand Rug Quality

Machine-made rugs offer consistent patterns, durability, and easier maintenance. Higher density and detailed weaving create sharper designs.

Shop by size

Not sure what fits? In a living room the rug should reach 18–24 inches past each side of the sofa. In a dining room, allow 24 inches beyond every chair so the chairs stay on the rug when they are pulled out.

Practical buying notes

What to know before buying a machine-made rug

Construction

The online catalog is power-loomed in Türkiye with hand-attached fringes and hand-finished edges. Each product page lists the exact construction, density, pile height and material.

Material & feel

A polypropylene pile on a cotton warp and weft — soft underfoot, colourfast, and far more forgiving of traffic and spills than wool.

Cleaning

Colourfast and water-safe, so a rug can be washed at home by hand or with a carpet-cleaning machine. Never in a washing machine or dryer. Day to day, vacuum on low with the beater bar off.

Best rooms

Living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, family rooms and majlis seating — anywhere you want a traditional look that survives daily use.

Hand-knotted

Genuine hand-knotted Afghan carpets are shown at the Sacramento showroom by appointment. They are not part of this online catalog.

Common questions

How much is shipping, and how long does it take?

Shipping is free on orders over $110 across the USA and Canada, and a flat $20 below that. Orders leave within one business day and arrive in 3–5 business days in the U.S. Sacramento-area online orders get free local delivery in 1–2 days.

What is your return policy?

30-day returns on online orders. Items must be unused, in original condition and in original packaging. The customer pays return shipping; if a rug arrives damaged or faulty, we pay. Approved refunds are processed within 3–7 business days.

Are these rugs machine-made or hand-knotted?

The online catalog is power-loomed (machine-woven) in Türkiye, with hand-attached fringes and hand-finished edges. Every product page lists the exact construction, density, pile height and material. Hand-knotted Afghan pieces are shown at the Sacramento showroom by appointment and are not listed online.

Can a rug be cut or bound to a different size?

We sell from stock rather than weaving to order, and the largest size we carry is 10×13. What we do in house is cutting, binding, overlocking and fringe work on a rug we already stock, so an existing piece can be trimmed to fit an alcove or a stair run. Ask us and we will tell you what is on the floor.

Can I see the rugs in person before buying?

Yes. The showroom is at 3423 Watt Avenue, Sacramento, open daily 10:00 AM – 7:30 PM. We speak English, Turkish, Farsi, Dari, Pashto and Urdu, and the team can help with size and colour choices.
