“Where the forehead meets the ground, the heart meets its Lord.”
✦ ✦ ✦
The most personal rug in the home
Every other rug in a house is walked upon. This one is stood upon five times a day, in the moments that matter most. It is where you rise before Allah at Fajr while the house still sleeps, where your forehead rests in sujood, where you linger afterward with your tasbih and your duʿa. Of all the rugs a family owns, it is the only one that is truly yours.
For centuries, the most treasured prayer rugs of the Islamic world were woven in silk. In the Ottoman lands a silk sajjada was an heirloom — laid out for the most important prayers, given at weddings, carried home from Hajj, and passed quietly from parents to children. This rug continues that tradition for the modern home.
✦
The nature of silk
Silk is the oldest luxury fibre known to man, and nothing else feels quite like it. Its yarn is fine and smooth, so the pile lies close and cool beneath the palms and the brow — never coarse, never warm and synthetic. It gathers light along its length, which is why a silk rug seems to glow from within: from one end the colour is deep and still; from the other it rises to a soft, pearl-like sheen. Morning light and evening lamplight reveal two different rugs.
Silk is also remarkably strong — fibre for fibre, among the strongest in nature. Cared for well, a silk prayer rug outlives the hands that first unrolled it.
✦
Why this one
- Woven in silk. The source of its cool, fine hand and its living lustre.
- Fringe tied by hand. Each fringe is knotted by hand at both ends — among the final touches before the rug leaves the workshop.
- Proportioned for prayer. 2.6 × 4.1 ft (80 × 125 cm) or 2.5 × 3.9 ft (75 × 120 cm) — room to stand, bow and prostrate with ease, and simple to roll away after salah.
- Four colours. Each chosen to suit a different person, a different room, a different kind of quiet.
- Light enough to travel. To the masjid on Jumuʿah, to family for Eid, or to a still corner of the house.
Choosing a colour
| Beige | Warm and calm, at home in any room. The timeless choice. |
| Cream | The lightest and brightest, with a pearl-like sheen. Luminous beside a window. |
| Burgundy | The colour of the great Ottoman prayer rugs. Rich, deep and traditional. |
| Blue | Cool and serene, like the tilework of an old mosque. A favourite for gifts. |
✦
A gift that is unrolled every day
Most gifts are opened once and set aside. A prayer rug is unrolled five times a day. Each time your mother or father stands for prayer upon it, they stand upon something you gave them — and every duʿa made there is made upon your gift. Few gifts carry so much, for so long.
- For your parents — the most fitting thanks to those who first taught you to pray.
- For a return from Hajj or Umrah — a silk sajjada to honour the journey of a lifetime.
- For Ramadan and Eid — a gift measured in meaning, not in price.
- For a nikah — among the first things a new couple prays upon together.
- For a new Muslim — a welcome that will never be forgotten.
How it is made
It is woven in Türkiye on a fine loom under digital colour control, which keeps every line of the drawing crisp from end to end. Off the loom it is washed and sheared to an even pile, then finished by hand: the fringe tied knot by knot, the rug examined front and back. The final step before it is rolled is a craftsman standing before it, looking.
In the interest of clarity: this is a machine-woven silk rug with hand-tied fringe, not a hand-knotted carpet. We state it plainly, because the distinction matters — and because it is what places a silk prayer rug of this quality within reach.
Caring for silk
- Roll it, or fold it loosely after prayer, along the same line each time, and keep it somewhere clean and dry.
- Shield it from direct sun when not in use — silk is a natural fibre, and strong light will soften its colour over time.
- Brush gently. A soft brush, or a vacuum on low suction with a brush head, in the direction of the pile.
- Blot spills at once — never rub. A dry white cloth, pressed and lifted.
- Never wash it at home. Water can mark silk permanently. For anything beyond dusting, entrust it to a specialist in silk.
We sell rugs; we do not wash, repair or re-fringe them, and we do not send them out on your behalf.

Origin & Heritage
The prayer rug (sajjadah) is one of the most personal pieces in a Muslim home — used daily, often carried, and chosen with care. Sizes are standardised to accommodate prostration; the design vocabulary centres on the prayer arch (mihrab) at one end, often with floral, geometric, or Kaaba-inspired motifs in the field and borders.
How It Feels Underfoot
Prayer rugs are made to be folded, rolled, and carried. The build is firm enough to lie flat without bunching at the edges, and the cover is chosen for comfort against the forehead and forearms during prostration. Underfoot, the pile is even; visually, the mihrab arch is sharp enough to read as the orientation point it is meant to be.
Designer Styling Notes
A prayer rug is functional first — choose by feel, by orientation when laid flat, and by colour story. Many households keep more than one: a darker formal piece for the prayer corner, a lighter or smaller piece for travel and daily use. Roll and store rather than fold long-term to avoid creasing across the mihrab.
Our Curated Selection
Stylish Rugs is a Sacramento showroom at 3423 Watt Avenue — open daily, ten to seven-thirty — and the catalogue here is a curated slice of what we carry. We serve customers across Northern California in person and online. If you are looking for a specific size or palette you do not see listed, call the showroom or message us on WhatsApp.
02Materials & Craftsmanship
Our prayer mats are made with soft polyester velvet-touch pile over foam padding, on a non-slip backing for confident placement on hardwood, tile, or marble. Patterns are sharp and inspired by traditional motifs from across the Muslim world.
The pile is thick enough to cushion knees and forehead during prostration, yet thin enough to roll up and store easily for travel.
03Care Instructions
- Spot clean with a damp cloth — do not machine wash
- Mild detergent only — no bleach
- Air dry flat, away from direct sunlight
- Do not iron the printed face
