01Description

The most personal rug in the home

Every other rug in a house is walked upon. This one is stood upon five times a day, in the moments that matter most. It is where you rise at Fajr while the house still sleeps, where your forehead rests in sujood, where you linger afterward with your tasbih and your duʿa.

The feel of it

The pile is viscose, spun fine and cut short, so it lies close and cool beneath the palms and the brow. It is very soft to the touch, and it catches the light along its length: from one end the colour is deep and still, and from the other it lifts to a soft sheen.

Why this one

  • A silk-touch surface. Viscose pile, for a soft hand and a sheen that moves with the light.
  • Hand-tied fringe. One of the final touches before the rug leaves the workshop.
  • Proportioned for prayer. 2.6 × 4.1 ft (80 × 125 cm) or 2.5 × 3.9 ft (75 × 120 cm), with room to stand, bow and prostrate, and simple to roll away after salah.
  • Four colours. Beige, burgundy, cream and blue.
  • Light enough to travel. To the masjid on Jumuʿah, to family for Eid, or to a still corner of the house.

Choosing a colour

  • Beige — warm and calm, at home in any room.
  • Cream — the lightest and brightest. Luminous beside a window.
  • Burgundy — rich, deep and traditional.
  • Blue — cool and serene, and a favourite for gifts.

A gift that is unrolled every day

Most gifts are opened once and set aside. A prayer rug is unrolled five times a day. It suits parents, a return from Hajj or Umrah, Ramadan and Eid, a nikah, or a new Muslim.

How it is made

It is woven in Türkiye on a fine loom under digital colour control, which keeps every line of the drawing crisp from end to end. Off the loom it is washed and sheared to an even pile, and the fringe is tied by hand.

So you know exactly what you are buying: this is a new, machine-woven prayer rug with a viscose pile and hand-tied fringe.

Caring for it

  • Roll it, or fold it loosely after prayer, and keep it somewhere clean and dry.
  • Shield it from direct sun when not in use, because strong light will soften its colour over time.
  • Brush gently. A soft brush, or a vacuum on low suction with a brush head, in the direction of the pile.
  • Blot spills at once — never rub. A dry white cloth, pressed and lifted.
  • Keep water away. Water can mark viscose and flatten the sheen permanently. Never soak, steam or wet-clean at home, and tell any professional cleaner the fibre is viscose.

We sell rugs; we do not wash, repair or re-fringe them, and we do not send them out on your behalf.

Origin & Heritage

The prayer rug (sajjadah) is one of the most personal pieces in a Muslim home — used daily, often carried, and chosen with care. Sizes are standardised to accommodate prostration; the design vocabulary centres on the prayer arch (mihrab) at one end, often with floral, geometric, or Kaaba-inspired motifs in the field and borders.

How It Feels Underfoot

Prayer rugs are made to be folded, rolled, and carried. The build is firm enough to lie flat without bunching at the edges, and the cover is chosen for comfort against the forehead and forearms during prostration. Underfoot, the pile is even; visually, the mihrab arch is sharp enough to read as the orientation point it is meant to be.

Designer Styling Notes

A prayer rug is functional first — choose by feel, by orientation when laid flat, and by colour story. Many households keep more than one: a darker formal piece for the prayer corner, a lighter or smaller piece for travel and daily use. Roll and store rather than fold long-term to avoid creasing across the mihrab.

Our Curated Selection

Stylish Rugs is a Sacramento showroom at 3423 Watt Avenue — open daily, ten to seven-thirty — and the catalogue here is a curated slice of what we carry. We serve customers across Northern California in person and online. If you are looking for a specific size or palette you do not see listed, call the showroom or message us on WhatsApp.

02Materials & Craftsmanship

Our prayer mats are made with soft polyester velvet-touch pile over foam padding, on a non-slip backing for confident placement on hardwood, tile, or marble. Patterns are sharp and inspired by traditional motifs from across the Muslim world.

The pile is thick enough to cushion knees and forehead during prostration, yet thin enough to roll up and store easily for travel.

03Care Instructions
  • Spot clean with a damp cloth — do not machine wash
  • Mild detergent only — no bleach
  • Air dry flat, away from direct sunlight
  • Do not iron the printed face
