Pet-Friendly Rugs

How our rugs are made

  • This collection is machine-woven (power-loomed) in Türkiye, imported directly by container to the United States.
  • Hand-finished. Fringes are attached and finished by hand, edges are hand-serged or hand-bound, and fine border detailing is completed by hand after weaving.
  • Hand-knotted Afghan carpets are shown by appointment. For homes with pets we generally steer people to the machine-woven range instead — hand-knotted wool holds up to traffic but is far more vulnerable to claws and accidents. See the hand-knotted collection →

What "pet-friendly" actually means here

The phrase gets used loosely online. We use it to mean three specific things: (1) fibre durability — the rug holds up to claws, dragged toys and repeated traffic without rapid pile-flattening; (2) stain release — the fibre doesn't permanently bond with liquid spills, so spot-cleaning works; (3) low-profile pile — the rug doesn't trap hair, dander or kibble in a way that makes vacuuming impractical.

Our 1200 Reeds line meets all three. Heat-set polypropylene with a 1200-reed weft density, ~8–10mm pile height, fast-twist yarn that resists matting, and a colourfast finish that survives mild enzymatic cleaners.

Sizing for pet households

  • Open-plan with dogs: the 9×12 or 10×13 anchors the conversation grouping AND extends past the sofa where dogs settle. A smaller rug confines the wear pattern to the rug edges, accelerating visible flattening.
  • Dining + cats: 8×10 under a 6-seater table covers the pulled-back chair footprint; the medallion field hides occasional fur between vacuums. Avoid pure ivory grounds; opt for ivory-with-medallion or light grey.

Care

Routine: vacuum with rotary-brush off if the rug has a low pile (otherwise standard suction). Spot: blot with cold water and a drop of dish soap, never scrub. For accidents, address within 30 minutes with cold water and a paper-towel press — do not rub.

FAQ

Are these washable?
Yes — they are water-safe and colourfast. Smaller sizes can go in a home machine on a cold gentle cycle; larger sizes are best rinsed and laid flat to dry, or cleaned professionally.
Are hand-knotted rugs a good idea with pets?
Generally no. Hand-knotted wool is beautiful and long-lived, but claws pull the pile and accidents need professional washing. For active pet households the machine-woven range here is the practical choice.
Are these safe for puppies who chew?
Polypropylene is non-toxic, but no rug is chew-proof. If your puppy is in active teething phase we recommend a less-loved test rug or a chew deterrent at the edges.
Will dark fur show on light rugs?
Yes — and white fur shows on dark rugs. The pattern hides more than the colour: an ivory medallion on charcoal ground hides both dark and light fur better than a solid field of either tone.

Buying Guide

How to Choose the Right Rug for Your Home

A fine rug should feel beautiful, balanced, and practical for the way you live. Use this quick guide to choose the right size, color, material, and style.

Choose the Right Size

For living rooms, 8×10 or 9×12 usually frames the seating area. For dining rooms, choose a rug that extends at least 24 inches beyond the table.

Match Your Color Story

Burgundy and gold create a warm traditional look. Navy and cream feel elegant and modern. Ivory, beige, and soft tones help brighten smaller rooms.

Understand Rug Quality

Machine-made rugs offer consistent patterns, durability, and easier maintenance. Higher density and detailed weaving create sharper designs.

Practical Buying Notes

What to Know Before Buying a Machine-Made Rug

Machine-made rugs are a practical choice for many homes because they offer consistent patterns, accessible pricing, and easier maintenance.

Density & Detail

Higher reed counts (1000–1500) produce sharper patterns. Our Persian-inspired collection is woven at 1200 reeds for crisp medallion definition.

Material & Feel

Modern machine-made rugs use polypropylene and polyester pile on a cotton warp — soft underfoot, stain-resistant, and naturally fade-resistant.

Easy Maintenance

Many of our designs are machine-washable at 30°C or spot-cleanable. No professional cleaning required for everyday upkeep.

Best Rooms

Living rooms, family rooms, dining areas, hallways, kid rooms, and apartments — anywhere you want luxury looks with practical wear.

Wool or Handmade

For heirloom investment pieces or formal sitting rooms with light traffic, ask about wool and hand-knotted options at the showroom.
