The pieces listed below are antique-period and semi-antique-period Persian, Bamboo-silk, and tribal designs available for immediate purchase. For our full hand-knotted antique inventory — including Kashan, Tabriz, Qom, Heriz, and Bidjar pieces ranging from circa 1900 to 1960 — we invite designers, collectors, and homeowners to schedule a private viewing at our Sacramento showroom.

What "antique" means in our catalog

We use the recognized rug-trade definitions:

  • Antique: 80+ years old. Hand-knotted on traditional looms in Iran, Turkey, or Afghanistan. Natural-dye wool foundations. Provenance documented where available.
  • Semi-antique: 40–80 years old. Often workshop-produced in Tabriz, Kashan, Hamadan, Mashhad, or Isfahan during the mid-twentieth century. Outstanding value relative to true antiques because the design language is identical and the wool is still aging beautifully.
  • Vintage-tribal: 20–40 years old. Predominantly Afghan (Khal Mohammadi, Aqcha, Baluch), Qashqai, and Shiraz tribal weaves. Distinct from production carpets — woven by individual weavers, often single-family commissions.

If a piece is described as "antique-inspired" or "antique design," it is a modern machine-woven reproduction. These are listed in our Luxury Rugs collection, not here.

Why designers and collectors buy from us

  • Direct relationships with weaving regions — the family has sourced from Iran and Afghanistan for three generations. Pieces aren't laundered through three middlemen.
  • Honest condition reporting — every antique is photographed front and back, with foundation, selvedge, and any restoration disclosed.
  • Sacramento showroom for in-person inspection — antique buying is tactile. We encourage clients to walk the rug, feel the foundation, and check color in natural light before committing.
  • Trade pricing for interior designers — see our Trade Program for memo access, in-home preview, and tier pricing on showroom inventory.

Sourcing custom or specific antique pieces

If you're searching for a particular city of origin (Kashan, Tabriz, Isfahan), specific dimensions, or a defined color palette, contact our antique desk directly at antiques@stylishrugs.us. We maintain a buyer's network across Iran and the U.S. trade and can source against a brief within 4–12 weeks. Acquisition fee and rug deposit apply.

Pricing & investment

Antique Persian rugs are unique — prices reflect age, region, knot density, design rarity, and condition. Our online listings start at $895 for semi-antique Persian designs and rise to $25,000+ for documented antique workshop pieces in the showroom. Vintage Afghan tribal pieces range $450–$2,400. For investment-grade antique collecting (silk Qom, fine Isfahan, classical Tabriz workshop) the price entry is typically $8,000–$50,000 — these pieces are always shown in person.

Buying antique rugs: a short FAQ

How do I know an antique rug is real? Authentic antique Persian rugs are hand-knotted, asymmetrically (Persian knot) or symmetrically (Turkish knot), on cotton or wool foundations, with natural dyes. We document each piece's foundation, knot count, dye-test where applicable, and likely region and era. Reproductions — even excellent ones — are listed as "antique design," never as "antique."

Are antique rugs a good investment? Documented antique workshop pieces (Kashan, Tabriz, Isfahan, Qom) from 1900–1960 have appreciated steadily for forty years, particularly silk and fine-wool Isfahan and Qom. Tribal pieces hold value but rarely appreciate. We don't position rugs as investments — we position them as functional textile art that happens to hold value.

Can I commission a custom rug? Yes. See our Trade Program for designers, or contact antiques@stylishrugs.us directly. Custom hand-knotted pieces from our Iran weaving partners are 12–24 weeks from deposit; size and design negotiable above 6×9 ft.

Do you have antique rugs in 8×10, 9×12, or 10×13? Yes — the showroom carries antique pieces in 8×10, 9×12 / 10×13, and oversized formats for great rooms. Online listings here represent a small slice. Email or call to ask about specific dimensions.

Sacramento showroom by appointment for hand-knotted antique inventory — we serve clients across Northern California, the Bay Area, Lake Tahoe, Napa, Sonoma, Reno, and the Sierra Nevada second-home corridor.

Buying Guide

How to Choose the Right Rug for Your Home

A fine rug should feel beautiful, balanced, and practical for the way you live. Use this quick guide to choose the right size, color, material, and style.

Choose the Right Size

For living rooms, 8×10 or 9×12 usually frames the seating area. For dining rooms, choose a rug that extends at least 24 inches beyond the table.

Match Your Color Story

Burgundy and gold create a warm traditional look. Navy and cream feel elegant and modern. Ivory, beige, and soft tones help brighten smaller rooms.

Understand Rug Quality

Machine-made rugs offer consistent patterns, durability, and easier maintenance. Higher density and detailed weaving create sharper designs.

Practical Buying Notes

What to Know Before Buying a Machine-Made Rug

Machine-made rugs are a practical choice for many homes because they offer consistent patterns, accessible pricing, and easier maintenance.

Density & Detail

Higher reed counts (1000–1500) produce sharper patterns. Our Persian-inspired collection is woven at 1200 reeds for crisp medallion definition.

Material & Feel

Modern machine-made rugs use polypropylene and polyester pile on a cotton warp — soft underfoot, stain-resistant, and naturally fade-resistant.

Easy Maintenance

Many of our designs are machine-washable at 30°C or spot-cleanable. No professional cleaning required for everyday upkeep.

Best Rooms

Living rooms, family rooms, dining areas, hallways, kid rooms, and apartments — anywhere you want luxury looks with practical wear.

Wool or Handmade

For heirloom investment pieces or formal sitting rooms with light traffic, ask about wool and hand-knotted options at the showroom.
