The Afghan toshak is the floor mattress of the home — long, firm, often laid in pairs along the walls of a sitting room and topped with bolster pillows. It is the foundation of the traditional Afghan reception room (mehmankhana), and it remains in everyday use across the diaspora — including the substantial Afghan community in the Sacramento area.
