Frequently Asked

Answers to the Questions We Hear Most

Don't see what you're looking for? Email info@stylishrugs.us or call (916) 890-4077 — a real person responds, usually same day.

Country of origin: every rug we sell is made in Türkiye (Turkey). Words such as “Persian,” “Kashan,” “Qom,” “Bijar,” “Tabriz,” “Oriental” and “Afghan” on this site describe the design and pattern of a rug — they are standard trade terms for a visual style, not a country of manufacture. We source and import from Türkiye only.

Ordering & Shipping

Do you offer Free shipping over $110?

Yes. Orders of $110 or more ship free across the continental United States, Hawaii, and Canada. On smaller orders, shipping is calculated at checkout.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are processed within 1 business day of payment confirmation. After that:

  • Continental US: 3 to 5 business days
  • Hawaii: 3 to 5 business days
  • Canada: 3 to 5 business days (plus possible customs hold)

You'll receive tracking by email as soon as your rug ships.

How do I track my order?

You'll receive an email with a tracking number as soon as your label is created. Tracking can take up to 24 hours to update with the carrier. If it hasn't updated after 48 hours, email us at info@stylishrugs.us and we'll check on it personally.

Do you ship to Canada? Are there extra fees?

Yes, we ship to Canada, and orders of $110 or more ship free. Canadian orders may be subject to customs duties, taxes, or brokerage fees collected by the carrier on delivery. These are determined by Canadian customs authorities and are the responsibility of the recipient. They are not refundable.

Can I pick up my order in Sacramento?

Yes — local pickup is available on most in-stock orders. Choose Local Pickup at checkout and we'll email you when your order is ready, usually the same day.

Pickup location: 3423 Watt Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95821. Open daily 10:00 AM – 7:30 PM.

Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

If your order hasn't shipped yet, yes — email us right away at info@stylishrugs.us with your order number. Once a label is created we usually can't cancel, but we can help you start a return after delivery.

Returns & Exchanges

What's your return policy?

You may return any online order within 30 days of delivery. The rug must be unused, in its original packaging, and free of wear, vacuum marks, stains, odors, pet hair, or alteration. For non-defective returns the customer covers return shipping; for damaged or defective rugs we cover it.

Full details: Returns & Refund Policy.

What if my rug arrives damaged?

Email info@stylishrugs.us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number, a clear photo of the damage, and a photo of the original packaging. We'll send a free return shipping label and offer a free replacement, exchange, or full refund — whichever you prefer.

How do I start a return?

Email info@stylishrugs.us with your order number and reason for return. We reply within 1 business day with return instructions. Please don't ship returns without prior authorization — it can delay processing.

Are returns from in-store purchases allowed?

Purchases made at our Sacramento showroom are eligible for exchange only, not refund. Exchanges must be requested within 24 hours of purchase, with the original receipt and packaging. We're happy to spend time with you in the showroom before you commit, so you can be confident in your selection.

The rug looks slightly different from the photos. Is that a defect?

Many of our rugs are handcrafted, so slight variations in pattern, color depth, weave tightness, and edge finishing are part of what makes each piece unique. Color may also appear different on screens than in person due to monitor calibration and room lighting. These natural variations are not defects, but you're welcome to return within 30 days under our standard policy if the rug isn't the right fit.

How long until my refund appears?

Inspection of returned rugs typically takes up to 3 business days. After approval, refunds appear in your original payment method within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank or card issuer.

Materials & Care

Where are your rugs made?

All of our rugs are made in Türkiye (Turkey). We buy directly from two long-standing manufacturers in Gaziantep, the largest machine-made carpet manufacturing region in the world, and import full containers into the Port of Oakland, California. Every U.S. customs entry we file declares Türkiye as the country of origin.

“Persian,” “Oriental,” “Kashan,” “Qom,” “Bijar,” “Tabriz” and “Afghan” are industry-standard names for design families and motifs — much like “French Provincial” furniture describes a style rather than where a chair was built. They do not indicate country of manufacture.

Every rug we sell is woven in Türkiye, and we have never sourced, imported, or offered anything from anywhere else.

What are your rugs made of?

Our collection includes machine-woven wool blends, viscose, polypropylene, cotton, and viscose silk-look rugs, all woven in Türkiye. Each product page lists material, reed count (where applicable), and pile information. If you can't find what you need, email us and we'll send specs.

What does "1200 reed" mean?

Reed count refers to weave density in Persian-style rugs. A 1200-reed rug has a much tighter, finer weave than a standard 700- or 1000-reed rug — meaning sharper pattern detail, a softer hand, and significantly longer wear. It's a luxury benchmark for Persian-inspired pieces.

How do I clean and care for my rug?
  • Vacuum weekly on a low-suction setting. Avoid the beater bar on high-pile rugs.
  • Rotate every 6 months to ensure even wear, especially in high-traffic areas.
  • Spot-clean spills immediately with a clean white cloth and lukewarm water. Blot — do not rub.
  • Test mild soap on a hidden corner before using on tougher stains.
  • Professional cleaning every 2–3 years keeps fibers fresh.
  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Will the colors fade over time?

High-quality wool and synthetic rugs hold color very well with normal care. The biggest cause of fading is prolonged direct sunlight — rotating your rug and using window coverings during peak sun hours will help keep colors vibrant for decades.

Are your rugs pet-friendly and kid-friendly?

Many of our rugs are well suited to family homes — particularly low-pile wool blends and polypropylene rugs, which clean easily and resist stains. Email us with the rug you have in mind and we'll tell you honestly how it holds up.

Will my rug shed?

New wool rugs typically shed lightly for the first few weeks — this is normal as loose fibers from the manufacturing process work their way out. Vacuum gently on a low setting; shedding subsides quickly.

Rugs & Pets — Pile, Loops, Fringe & Claw Safety

Do cat or dog claws snag on looped rugs?

Looped-pile constructions — where yarn forms continuous, uncut loops across the surface — present the highest snagging risk for cats in particular. A claw that catches a loop and pulls can distort or pull out that loop, and repeated catches can unravel a run of loops over time. Our Turkish machine-woven rugs use a cut-pile construction, meaning every yarn loop is sheared open at the top. Cut pile cannot be unraveled by a snagged claw the way looped pile can, which makes it a meaningfully lower-risk choice for households with cats or large dogs.

That said, no rug is guaranteed claw-proof. Very high or loosely woven cut pile can still be pulled or pilled by determined claws. If your cat actively scratches floor surfaces, a dedicated scratching post nearby is still the most reliable protection for any rug.

How does pile height affect pets?

Pile height — the length of the yarn above the backing — affects both snagging risk and cleanup:

  • Low pile (under ~12 mm): fibers have less room to catch a claw or trap pet hair and dander. Spills sit on the surface longer before soaking in, making blotting easier. Our tightly woven Persian-style cut-pile rugs fall into this category.
  • High pile / shag (over ~20 mm): deeper pile can feel plush underfoot but traps pet hair more readily and takes longer to dry after a wet clean. High pile is not a feature of our current collection.

For pet households, we generally recommend our low-to-medium cut-pile rugs. Browse rugs on each product page for pile details, or email us and we'll narrow it down for you.

Is fringe a problem with cats or dogs?

Yes — fringe is the feature most commonly flagged by cat owners. Fringe strands are typically extensions of the rug's warp threads or separately sewn-on yarn, and cats readily bat, chew, and pull them. Ingestion of synthetic or wool fibers can cause digestive issues in cats, and heavy pulling can stress the rug's end finish.

Most of our rugs do not have fringe. Where fringe is present it is noted in the product description. If fringe is a concern for your household, choose a rug listed without fringe, or contact us and we can confirm before you order.

How does backing interact with pet accidents?

Our rugs use a latex-coated woven backing, which provides moderate moisture resistance at the base layer. A liquid spill that reaches the backing takes longer to penetrate than it would with an unbacked rug — giving you a slightly wider window to blot from the top. However, the backing is not waterproof: if urine or a large spill is left untreated, it can seep through, sit between the rug and the floor, and cause odor or mold underneath.

For best results with pets: blot immediately with a clean white cloth, apply a pet-enzyme cleaner to neutralize odor, and allow the rug to dry thoroughly — ideally lifted off the floor — before laying it flat again. A breathable rug pad can help airflow underneath.

Are wool rugs safe around pets — can animals be allergic to wool?

True lanolin or wool allergies in dogs and cats are uncommon, though not impossible. More frequently, pets — and some people — are sensitive to the dust, dander, and particulate that any rug traps over time rather than to the fiber itself. Our wool-blend rugs are machine-woven with processed yarn that retains little raw lanolin, which reduces (but does not eliminate) that potential irritant.

If your pet has known sensitivities, our polypropylene rugs are a fully synthetic option with no animal-derived fiber. Polypropylene is also inherently stain- and moisture-resistant, which suits active pet households well. Browse the full collection or contact us and we'll point you to the right options.

Which rugs in your collection are best suited to homes with cats?

Based on the features most relevant to cat households — cut-pile construction, low-to-medium pile height, no fringe, and easy-clean fiber — these are the types to focus on:

  • Cut-pile wool-blend Persian-style rugs: tightly woven, low pile, no loose loops, and natural fiber holds up well to moderate traffic. The Cream Medallion Persian Rug and Navy & Cream Medallion Persian Rug are good examples.
  • Polypropylene-based Turkish rugs: synthetic fiber that resists staining and moisture, wipes clean easily, and has no animal-derived components. Ask us which current listings use polypropylene as the primary fiber.

We can't promise any rug is claw-proof or chew-proof — that depends on your cat's habits. Email info@stylishrugs.us with the rug you're considering and your cat's usual behavior and we'll give you a straight answer.

Sizing & Fit

How do I choose the right size rug?

A rug should anchor your space, not float in the middle of it. As a general rule:

  • Living room: at least the front legs of all major furniture should rest on the rug. Common sizes: 6.5×10 ft or 8.2×11.5 ft.
  • Dining room: all chair legs should stay on the rug when pulled out. Add about 24 inches around the table.
  • Bedroom: a rug under the bed should extend 18–24 inches on the sides and foot. 5×7.5 ft works for queens; 8.2×11.5 ft suits king beds.
  • Hallway: leave 4–6 inches of bare floor on each side. Common runners: 3×6, 3×10, 3×13 ft.

Need help? Email us with room measurements and we'll suggest a size.

What sizes do you carry?

From 2-meter runners (3×6 ft) up to large room-size rugs (8.2×11.5 ft / 250×350 cm) and beyond. Sizes are listed on each product page in both feet and centimeters. Custom cutting and edge binding are available in our Sacramento showroom — call us at (916) 890-4077.

Can I see the rug in my space before committing?

Two options. First, visit our Sacramento showroom and we'll help you visualize at scale. Second, order online with confidence — you have 30 days from delivery to return if the rug isn't the right fit.

Do you offer rug pads?

We do not sell rug pads. We do recommend one for any rug on hardwood, tile, or laminate — a pad protects the rug, stops it sliding, and adds cushioning underfoot. Any hardware or flooring store carries them; ask for a felt-and-rubber pad cut about an inch smaller than the rug on each side.
