أنتج نسج بلاط أصفهان تحت حكم الشاهات الصفويين المتأخرين – عباس الأول (حكم من 1587–1629) حتى سليمان الأول (حكم من 1666–1694) – أرقى السجاد الحريري والخيوط المعدنية في التقليد الفارسي الكلاسيكي. تقنية الزاري (بالفارسية زری، من زر = ذهب) نسجت خيوط معدنية مسطحة (مذهبة بالفضة فوق قلب حريري) مباشرة في الوبر، مما أنتج أسطحًا تعكس الضوء بشكل مختلف عن أي سجادة صوف خالص أو حرير خالص. كانت ميداليات أصفهان زاري من بين أغلى التكليفات الملكية وأكثر الهدايا الدبلوماسية تفصيلاً في العصر الصفوي.
